Applied kinesiology can essentially be boiled down to the manual muscle test. Dr. George Goodheart discovered and started formulating his ideas on applied kinesiology in the 1960s and after. The manual muscle test was one of the primary parts of the technique. Manual muscle testing is commonly used in physical therapy and other similar fields for addressing muscular strength. Dr. Goodheart found that muscles that were not holding up to the pressure place against them could be strengthened by certain treatments. From these treatments more have been added and other techniques have been formed based on his original work.

Applied kinesiology (AK) is first and foremost a diagnostic technique. It incorporates multiple treatments and diagnostic procedures. Acupuncture, reflexes discovered by Dr. Chapman (an early 1900s osteopath), visceral referred pain patterns, neurology, and many other techniques and diagnostic tools have been added to the overall AK technique. So it takes quite a bit of studying and practice to learn.

Over the years we have boiled down what we focus on and try to treat with the triad of health. The three areas we focus on are emotional, chemical, and structural.

Emotional health can be mental stress, emotional trauma that has been experienced, or spiritual issues. Any amount of this can show up on a single patient. AK doctors have discovered multiple ways to treat this type of issue from emotional clearing to chakra work. We do a lot of energy work including chakras to help balance the body as well desensitize from food intolerances.

Chemical health boils down to all our metabolic processes. This is where nutrition and herbal medicine play a huge role. We find and address a lot of underlying infections and food sensitivities. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies are quite common too. Neurotransmitters and mental fit in both chemical and emotional health but it is another area we address quite frequently to make sure the brain is properly balanced and supported nutritionally.

Whether it is low back pain or headaches, it is a common issue many of our clients deal with on a day to day basis. Through AK we are able to incorporate many techniques and treatments to address the root cause of pain and help the body function more effectively. AK helps us to do this rather efficiently too. Some of the techniques are myofascial releasing, cranial work, and chiropractic adjustments.

As you can see most if not all issues fall under the triad of health. As AK practitioners we do our best to quickly identify and efficiently treat our clients’ issues. We hope this explanation helps!
